Edgar Downie
August 18, 1931 - October 27, 2015
Downie, Edgar Charles
On October 27, 2015, peacefully and with his loving wife Lorna and his children at his side Edgar Downie said his last goodbye.
For 84 years, Edgar has brightened his corner of the world with his easy smile, his outgoing positive spirit and his twinkling Irish eyes.
All men die - some never live. Edgar avoided such a fate - he lived, he loved, he laughed, he hugged, he kissed and he had a special way that put everyone he met immediately at ease. He didn't judge people - never a bad word about anyone, seriously, no one. He saw the good in people and they in turn saw it clearly in him.
He was a devoted husband to Lorna (Neal) for 59 years and their deep, mutual love was an inspiration to all. Edgar was an affectionate and playful dad to Charlyn, Mike, Paula, Gord and Patrick. Everyone should be so lucky as to have a father like Edgar. He taught us firsthand about the big stuff in life - honesty, loyalty, dedication and above all kindness.
Edgar's 20 grandchildren were a constant source of pride and joy to him and they will all carry a piece of him with them forever and wherever they go.
"Through the ages, the end of days of heroes is the same as ordinary men. They all died and gradually faded away in the memory of man. But while we are still here we have to understand ourselves, discover ourselves and express ourselves."
We will honour Edgar's exemplary life on Monday, November 2 at 1:30 pm at the Isabel Bader Centre for The Performing Arts, 390 King St. W, Kingston, K7L 2X4. (King St. and Morton Way)
