Whaley, Phillip Lawrence

Passed away at Kingston, Ontario on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in his 73rd year.

A remarkably tough, independent and gruffly kind man, Phil will always be remembered as a "guard's guard." He was a life-long employee of Correctional Service of Canada and literally lived in the shadow of Kingston Penitentiary. Phil served as Kingston Penitentiary Local Union President for many years over the course of his career. Among his numerous citations is a CSC 20 Year Exemplary Service Medal. After retiring from Correctional Service of Canada, Phil was employed for the remainder of his life with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires at CSC Regional Staff College. In that position, Phil was able act as a mentor to hundreds of recruits. His interests included model building, military and US Civil War history and compiling primary sources on CSC-related topics.

He is survived by his beloved dogs Lady, Charly and Little Bear. Phil will be fondly remembered by Louise Hannigan and Kerry Short, as well as by his colleagues and friends at CSC.

A Graveside Service will held at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens, 2563 Division Street, on Wednesday, May 4th at 1:00 p.m., Ven. Archdeacon Bill Clarke officiating. Arrangements by ROBERT J. REID & SONS – The Chapel on the Corner.
