Thompson, Margaret Mary (née Farrell)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marg Thompson following a short illness, on January 11th, 2016, the eve of her 82nd birthday. Lovingly missed by her husband of 59 years, Clifford, and her children, Mark (Mary), Anne, and Kathie (Sherri). Cherished Nana of Drew (Alie), Kevin, Emma, Liam and Piper, and great-grandsons Xander and Kaelen. Predeceased by her parents Frank and Elizabeth (Whalen) Farrell. Survived by her siblings Mary (the late Gerald) Kerby, Maureen (Dan) McAvoy and Frank (Judy) Farrell, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in Marlbank, Marg lived most of her adult life in the Kingston area. She worked at Hotel Dieu Hospital for 40 years, retiring as Charge Tech, Hematology in 1992, providing a strong female role model for her children. Marg then began her second career as a genealogist, a journey that led her to many new-found relatives and friends from around the world, and trips to her ancestral homeland of Ireland. Marg’s diligence and persistence in ensuring her research was accurate made her the ‘go to’ person for many others, and she will be greatly missed by those researching their Irish roots, both near and far. Thank you to Dr. Sandra Cowan for your wonderful care throughout the years, to Drs. Hookey and Nanji for your compassion and expertise in treating mom’s illness, and to Dr. Patey for ensuring Mom was able to remain at home, in the presence of her loving family, as was her wish.

Family and friends are invited to visitation at the Robert J. Reid & Sons Funeral Home ‘The Chapel on the Corner’ 309 Johnson St., Kingston, on Friday, January 15th from 4 to 7 pm, and at the Hannah Funeral Home, 6689 Wheeler St., Tamworth, on Saturday January 16th from 9:00 to 10:30 am.
