Scott, Jeanne Margaret

Passed away Thursday, February 18th, 2016 very peacefully at Kingston General Hospital while holding hands with both of her sons Gregory Scott and JC Scott. At 93 years of age and after many false alarms at KGH Emergency over the last few years, where each time she was treated remarkably well by the hospital staff, Jeanne finally succumbed to a fatal illness and joined her loving husband Stuart where spirits conjoin. Jeanne is survived by her two sons, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Jeanne was born in the UK in 1921 and was raised in West Bromwich. After WWII Jeanne immigrated to Canada as a ‘warbride’, having married the handsome RCAF pilot Stuart B Scott during the war in Portsmouth UK. Stuart and Jeanne started their life in Canada together in ‘The Beaches” of Scarborough, Toronto. As their lives evolved, they had two children in Toronto and then moved first to Bath, Ontario and then Kingston where Stuart studied law, supported by Jeanne who housed and fed Queens University students to support the family.Upon graduation, Stuart practiced law in Gananoque and later acted as an immigration appeals board magistrate in Ottawa and Thunder Bay and then returned to law in Toronto and later Kingston working with Jeanne as office administrator They lived at a comfortable residence on Main Street, Kingston where they became part of Kingston’s wider immigrant society. The back yard there was legendary for home made wine, pasta sauce, Easter bread and good old Canadian Bar B Que and beer. Throughout this life in Canada Jeanne worked in retail, real estate and office administration. While in retail sales in Ottawa she supported the now famed and recognized first nations artist, Norval Morrisseau, at a low point in his career because she recognized his talent. This was because Jeanne herself was trained and schooled as an artist at Birmingham in the British tradition. After art school and during the war Jeanne worked as a barmaid in her mother’s 500 year old pub called “Ye Old Farriers’ Arms” in West Bromwich, Staffordshire where she caught the eye of the dashing RCAF pilot Stuart B Scott. They married in Portsmouth, UK with best man Bill Knight and her mother Maggie Harris attending.Jeanne’s hospitality spirit was evident even on her death bed where she admonished both of her sons for not providing drinks and food for her guests in her intensive care unit hospital room!

Jeanne will be missed by her family, by many others whose lives she touched and she will be fondly remembered by all who knew her as friends, co-workers and neighbours. She broke the mold on the way out of this life and will not be replaced. We will miss you Jeanne but Stuart can now rest with Jeanne in his arms once again.

Memorial Service will be held at the ROBERT J. REID & SONS FUNERAL HOME “The Chapel on the Corner” 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie St.) on Monday, February 22nd at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to a reception immediately following at Olympic Harbour Restaurant, 53 Yonge Street. As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Jeanne to UHKF - Intensive Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.
