<div itemprop="description">Zakos, Christopher James (1914 -2015)<br /><br />Surrounded and supported by the love of his family, Christopher James Zakos in his 101st year passed away quietly on Monday March 9. Beloved husband for 65 years to the late Bessie Zakos 2007 (Nee: Kikes). Cherished father of Peggy Geracimo (Andy) of Kingston, Elaine Gagas (Late John) of Syracuse, John Zakos (Marion) &amp; Nikki Pearson (Todd) all of Kingston. Adored grandfather of Michelle Hoyle (Kevin), Christine Ford (Scott ) &amp; Peter Geracimo (Anthony),Andrea Gagas, Mark Gagas (Jacque) ,Michael Gagas, Christopher Zakos, Matthew and Andrew Pearson. Loving great-grandfather of Connor &amp; Charles Ford. <br /><br />Chris was well known in the Kingston Community both as a successful businessman and a dedicated volunteer. In 1942 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces with the R.C.A.S.C. leaving with the rank of Sergeant in 1945. He was one of the founding members of the Greek Community in Kingston, serving two terms as its President. In 1965, Chris was elected Supreme Vice-President of Canada for A.H.E.P.A (American Hellenic Educational &amp; Progressive Association, a world wide philanthropic organization) where he served with great distinction. He was honored to represent Canada at a White House Luncheon and met with then President Johnson in the Oval Office. A strong advocate and active member of the Rotary Club of Kingston for over 50 years, he was proclaimed an Honorary Life Member in 2010.<br />A generous, charming and loving family man, Chris instilled in his children the importance of family and being there for each other. He was a great friend and always enjoyed opening his home to family and friends. Quick to laughter with never an unkind word, Chris was a patient father, doting grandfather and adoring great grandfather. He always enjoyed his many nieces and nephews whom he cherished and loved. Forever the life of the party, we will all miss him and his sunny disposition.<br />The family will receive friends at the Robert J. Reid &amp; Sons, &ldquo;The Chapel on the Corner,&rdquo; 309 Johnson Street(at Barrie) Kingston on Thursday<br />from 4-8pm. Funeral Service will take place in the Greek Orthodox Church.<br />121 Johnson Street, Kingston, on Friday March 13, 2015 at &not;11am. Interment at Cataraqui Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate memorial donations to University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, Rotary Club of Kingston or the charity of your choice.<br /></div>
