Ruth Gertrude Orr 1927-2015

Peacefully , at Sunnyside Home in Kitchener on Thursday February 19th, 2015, Ruth “Gerri” Orr passed away of Alzheimer’s. She was 87.
Devoted and loving mother to a thankful family whose lives were enriched, shaped and molded by her spirited presence and celebratory character. Beloved mother to son John Hohmeier (Catherine) of Kitchener, grandmother to Holly of Mississauga, John Jr (Danette) of Michigan and Robyn of Toronto, great grandmother to Mitchell (8) . Mother to daughter Sharon O'Hearn (Peter) of Ottawa, grandmother to Shannon of Ottawa and Seamus of Kelowna,BC. Gerri will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Gerri is predeceased by her husband’s Jack Hohmeier (1989), Ralph Andress (1982) and Ralph Orr (2012), her sisters Shirley Cunningham (London) and Elaine White (Kitchener). Gerri, originally from Michigan, was a long time resident of Gananoque where she enjoyed her beautiful river view home, wonderful neighbors Barry and Ann Moult and her wild birthday party barbeques with the grand kids. She valued her volunteer service at the Legion in Gananoque. Gerri was proud to be a Snow Bird, vacationing for the entire winter in Cocoa Beach with Ralph for over 20 years. It will be difficult to imagine that this life loving mother and grandmother has packed up her Coors Lite, white jeans and fabulous butter tarts and "left the building". She was a gal who was one in a million! We appreciate all the caregivers along the way who enjoyed Gerri and extended themselves in so many ways to provide a safe and comfortable home. We greatly value your service. Special thanks to Heather and the staff at Fox Run in Gananoque and the entire staff of Woodside at Sunnyside, Kitchener.

Our family would be delighted to welcome friends for visitation at the Robert J. Reid & Sons “The Chapel on the Corner”, 309 Johnson Street, Kingston, Ontario on Saturday February 28th from 12:00-2:00 pm with a memorial service in the chapel at 2pm. Interment at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens, Glenburnie. A light lunch will be provided after the interment. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.
