Caira, Raffaele Quirino

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Ralph on Friday June 13, 2014. Ralph was born in the town of Atina, Inferiore Italy, on January 20, 1929. In 1955, he immigrated to Canada, eventually settling in Kingston. On September 6, 1965, he married Mary Janet Jennings from Godfrey, Ontario. Mr. Caira was a building contractor for many years, building over 52 homes within a twelve year span in Kingston and the surrounding area. During the early 1960's, along with many others from the Kingston Italian community, he helped to add an addition to the Italo Canadian Club, where he was a member for many years. Growing up playing soccer in Italy, one of his greatest passions, he almost became a professional during the early 1950's. In his later years while living in Kingston, he would continue to play, as well as coach many tournaments, winning several awards. In his spare time he loved spending time on Wolfe Island with his family and friends, working in his home garden or hosting family BBQ's. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who had a strong love for everyone, including his pets. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Janet, brothers Biagio, Vincenzo and Liveo. Ralph will sadly missed by his children Margaret-Ann, Vince and Mary-Jo; Grandchildren Edward Caira and Alexander Hamilton; sister Maria Caira and brother Roberto. A special thanks to KGH-Connell 10 for their care and support.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday June 24, 2014 at the Robert J. Reid & Sons, “The Chapel on the Corner”, 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie Street). As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Kingston Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.
