John Smythe
April 24, 1926 - May 21, 2016
SMYTHE, John Francis Aldham-Kingston, Ontario.
Born: April 24, 1926 Bachelor of Science, 1948, Queens University. John died peacefully at home during his afternoon nap on Saturday, May 21st, 2016, a month after excitedly celebrating his 90th birthday. Dearest husband of Margaret (O’Connor)(deceased) and Anna Wlasuk and loving father of Anne (deceased), (Daniel Burns, Toronto), John (Beverly Blaney), Michael (Debbie), David (Kristine Dempster), Brian (Katherine) and Larry; Grandfather to Ian, Aileen, Meghan, Emily, Christopher, Shanleigh, Sarah, John, Jordan, Julia, Ashley, Kyle, Parker, Kaitlyn, Abby, Tristan and Jacob and great grandad to Jamieson, Kellan, Luke and Kane.
John loved his family without reservation and felt his life was blessed. He was especially lucky in love, raising a family with Margaret, whom he nursed with care during her final years, and in turn being wonderfully loved and cared for by Anna, for whom he and his family have eternal affection and gratitude. John was hired by Alcan Kingston after graduating from engineering and his career led him to posts in Montreal and Sydney, Australia. He then worked for a decade with the Queens School of Business before retiring for good, 20 years ago. He always said he enjoyed his careers thoroughly because of his wonderful colleagues. Dad received great medical care throughout his senior years and the family is especially thankful to Dr. Elizabeth Lawrence and the staff of KGH, the Hildegard Centre and CCAC.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at ROBERT J. REID & SONS - The Chapel on the Corner, 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie St.) on Thursday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 392 Palace Road on Friday May 27, at 10:30 a.m., Monsignor Joseph Lynch presiding. Rite of Committal will take place at Cataraqui Cemetery, followed by a reception at Residence Inn by Marriot, 7 Earl Street, West 76 Grill. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to St Joseph’s Church, the Hildegard Center or UHKF would be appreciated by the family.
