<div itemprop="description"><br /><br />FRANCES ANNA [LEA] LAVERTY <br /> <br />Peacefully at the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre in Ottawa on the 8th of December, in her 104th year, Frances Laverty was predeceased by her husband the Rev. Dr. A. Marshall (Padre) Laverty, the well-known and beloved University Chaplain of Queen's University for over forty years. Loving mother of Mary Ann (John) de Chastelain of Ottawa and Lea (David ) Rutherford of Kleinburg, dear grandmother of Duncan (Debbie) de Chastelain of Georgetown and Amanda (Corey Finnigan) de Chastelain of Calgary, James (Becky) Rutherford of Newton Robinson and Christopher Rutherford of Kleinburg, and great grandmother of Kylie, Meghan, and Bryn of Georgetown, Kaitlin and Kelly of Calgary, and Audrey of Newton Robinson.<br /><br />She was predeceased by her brothers, John, James, Walter and Edgar Lea and her only sister Mary Kirkpatrick. She will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews from both the Lea and Laverty branches.<br /><br />A long-time resident of Kingston and an invaluable asset to her husband and to Queen's through countless gatherings at their home for students, she was known for her warm and welcoming nature. Growing up in Toronto, she was a graduate of Bishop Strachan School and Victoria College, University of Toronto, the first of four generations of women university graduates in her family, the last a Rhodes scholar. <br /> <br />The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Edinburgh Retirement Home and the Perley Rideau Veterans&rsquo; Health Centre for the excellent care they provided to Frances Laverty in her final years.<br /> <br />A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Robert J. Reid &amp; Sons &ldquo;The Chapel on the Corner&rdquo;, 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie Street), Kingston on the 30th of December at 3 pm. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 pm till the service at 3 pm. As expressions of sympathy, a donation to the Padre and Frances Laverty Bursary at Queen's University, Chalmers United Church in Kingston or a charity of your choice, would be greatly appreciated. <br /><br /></div>
