<div itemprop="description">Hartel, Erwin. Peacefully and gently, surrounded by family, on the 23rd of October, 2015. Erwin died at age 88, after having completed a life rich in love and purpose. He was a member of the large wave of post-war immigration from Europe, arriving in Canada essentially penniless, although blessed with an abundance of talent, motivation, and courage. Together with his late wife Jensine he used these gifts to build a wonderful life for his family. He was a master blacksmith, a gifted artisan, and had a profound work ethic. He was as strong as an ox and as gentle as a kitten. Predeceased by his wife Jensine, and son Peter (Janet), survived by daughters Katherine (Rae), Christine (Steve) and Ena (Michael). He also leaves many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Fairfield Manor East, and Carveth Care Centre. We are also thankful for the superb care provided by Dr. Andy Ross during Erwin's latter years. The family will receive friends at the Robert J. Reid &amp; Sons Funeral Home, &quot; The Chapel on the Corner&quot;, 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie Street) on Friday, October 30th from 4-7 pm. Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, October 31 at 11 am. Private family interment at Willowbank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial donation to The Alzheimer Society.</div>
