He is survived by his wife Beth and his family, Heather Armstrong, David (Kim Thomas), Miranda, Elizabeth Green (Russ), and Thomas (John Andrews). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: George (Samantha) Armstrong, Natasha (Sean Finlay) and Julian Frid and, Douglas, Jeffrey and Stuart Green. Predeceased by parents, the Reverend Roy and Isobel Frid, his sister Ruth, and brothers Roy and Dr. John Frid.
As part of a unique all-veterans class, Jim graduated in 1950 with a degree in medicine from the University of Western Ontario, and began his career at the Peterborough Medical Centre as a dedicated paediatrician who served the community for 24 years.
In 1979 Jim began a new phase of his career as a behavioural paediatrician with the Beechgrove Regional Children’s Centre in Kingston. While in this position he worked with fellow professionals to develop a children’s mental health program that was later modelled across the country. As part of his role in Kingston, he also had the opportunity to teach medical students as an assistant professor at Queen’s University, where he shared his experiences in this new emerging field of Behavioural Paediatrics.
Jim nourished his faith at Chalmers United Church, and enjoyed singing in the choir, and served as an active member of Rotary for over fifty years. He was a devoted husband and caring father and grandfather. Jim will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered.
The family will receive friends at the Robert J. Reid and Sons Funeral Home 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie Street), in Kingston on Friday August 30 between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Sydenham Street United Church (82 Sydenham Street) on Saturday August 31 at 11 a.m. A reception to follow at the Funeral home.
