Rutenberg, David Peter, Professor Emeritus, Queen’s University.
David died on December 11, 2014 while enjoying a beach vacation with his grandchildren and daughter-in-law in Thailand. Beloved husband of Sandra, father of Michael (Gloria) and Andrew (Lidija), and grandfather of Lorena, Sebastian, Sara and Katarina. Son of the late Anatol and Molly Rutenberg, and brother of Olga, John, Peter, and Robert (deceased). Also lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law, his brothers-in-law, his nieces and nephews, and the many people his life touched.

Born in Coventry, UK on June 8, 1940, David immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1954, and completed high school in Fort Frances. He studied Engineering Physics at University of Toronto where he met Sandra. He studied business at UC Berkeley, and taught international business at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh before moving to Kingston Ontario in 1977 to teach at the Queen’s School of Business.

David was bright, curious and very engaged in his life and with his work. He was a thoughtful teacher and a strong promoter of international student exchange programmes at Queen's. David loved to travel and experience new things, and treasured a year spent with the National Defense College. He was an active member of the congregation of Chalmers United Church. After retiring he was on the board of the Kingston Economic Development Corporation and more recently was the coordinator of the McBurney Park Neighbourhood Association. David always loved to talk with people about what they did, and about what they might do. He will be dearly missed, not least for his warm heart, hugs, and enthusiasm.

The family will receive friends at the Robert J. Reid & Sons, “The Chapel on the Corner”, 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie Street), Kingston this Sunday from 7-9pm. Visitation will continue at Chalmers United Church, 212 Barrie Street (at Earl Street) from 12pm until the time of the service at 1pm on Monday, December 22, 2014. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area would be appreciated.
